Situated on the banks of Nethravathi river in the haert of the Bantwal city, Shree Mahalingeshwara Temple is an very popular ancient temple which has a very rich history dating back to many years back. The temple known for the divine power is a very popular in the region dedicated to Lord Shiva. From the begining of the last century, with the co-operation of neighbouring families of Brahmin community and devotees, the temple has been renovated with the expenses of the temple are met by the income from the sevas and poojas offered at the temple.

The Nethravathi river flowing in the Eastern direction, Ashvatha Katta & deck for deity Lord Naga and coconut plantation on north eastern direction add a mesmerising beauty to the temple surrounding.

The temple which has a tradition of not recognizing the devotees on the caste basis has a idol of the main deity facing towards East and Lord Ganapathi idol towards west. It is believed that this idol is insatlled by Shree Panambur Subbaraya in the year 1898. It is customary practice followed at the temple from many years of giving the first honour to offer sevas to deity by the "Somayaji" family.


Annual Festival:
Every year Annual feastival is celebrated at the temple on the day of Mesha Sankramana in the presence of large number of devotees who vist the temple to offer prayers to the deity seeking good blessings. "Dhwajarohana" symbols the begining of the festival on the first day followed with Bayana Bali Utsava on second day, Nadubali Utsava on Third Day, Rathothsava on Fourth Day and Avabratha Snaanadhi on Fifth day followed with Dhwaja Arohana on the final day to mark the end of the festival.

Lakshadeepothsava:
Laksha Deepothsava is celebrated with Bali Utsava of the deity every year on the day of Amavasya of "Karthika Maasa"

Shivarathri:
Shivarathri is celebrated with the devotees belonging to Brahmin community performing "Neerabhisheka" to the deity.

Temple will remain open from 6 AM in the morning till 8 PM in the evening.

Pooja Timings:
Morning: 8:30 AM
Afternoon : 12:30 PM
Evening : 7:30 PM
