About
On advice from his father Kashyapa Brahma, Vibhandka performs tapas inorder to please Lord Parameshwara. As a result of fruitful, terrible tapas, stream of flames erupted from his overhead consuming whole world. Inorder to prevent this fire disaster, Devatha’s decided to send an apsaras to earth to divert the concentration of meditating Vibhandaka.
These apsara’s roam helplessly beside the river side of Tunga river as they couldn’t succeed in climbing the mountain where vibhandaka is observing tapas. After few days when Vibhandaka arrived to Tunga river to take bath, these apsara’s take this opportunity. But for time being even Vibhandaka gets into confused state of mind. Due to the momentous fickleness, the ejected sperms get mixed into the river water. With their work done, the Apsara’s returned back from Bhooloka. A curse ridden deer drinks the river water, and as the result Vibhandaka’s sperm get into the body of the deer. As a result deer gets conceived. After 9 months, the deer gives birth to a boy child with heavenly effulgence one early morning on good shubha muhurtham in between the bushes besides the river. The deer leaves back the child in the bushes and follows its own way. At the same time, Vibhandaka comes to the river side to take bath. On hearing the screaming of the child from the bush, Vibhandaka approaches the bush. He is surprised to see a child screaming in between the bushes.
With his super natural powers, Vibhandaka learns that the child is none other than his scion of his family. He then takes the child along with him. Since the child was born to deer, a small horn began to grow on his head. (In Sanskrit, horn is reffered as “SHRINGA”). Since the child belonged to his family scion, he named the him as Rishyashringa after performing upanayana sacrament. He will be more conscious on the boy, so that he too dosent fall into the prey of women as happened to him.
On other hand, king of Ayodhya Dasharatha asks the king of Angadadesh, Romapaada to adopt his child born Shantha to his paramour, on advice of his guru, Vasista. Since the child was born on bad nakshatra, Anga desha was hit by severe famine. Inspite performing as many yagas, yajnas, famine hunts Angadesha for 12 long years resulting drought in a large number of deaths. At the same time, Naarada arrives to Angada desha. Romapada welcome him and asks for his advice to overcome the situation.
Naarada advices him to approach to Brahmachaari, Rishyashringa. Romapada makes necessary arrangements to bring Rishyashringa to his kingdom. As soon as Rishyashringa lands his foot on Angada Desha, it begins to rain heavily. As per the advice given by Naarada, Romapada ask Rishyashringa to marry his adopted daughter Shaanthala, for which he too agrees. Thus Angada desha becomes prosperous.
At the same time, Dasharatha’s kingdom Ayodhya will be too prosperous. But he will be boredom since he didn’t have any childrens. On the other hand one of his minister Sumantra had heard a lot of about RishyaShringa, and he asks Dasharatha to welcome him to Ayodhya and perform puthrakameshti yaaga. Dasharath too agrees and yaga is performed. On completion of yaaga, Dasharatha gave paayasa to his wives Kausalye and kaike. These two share half of their paayasa with Sumithre. As a result Kousalye gives birth to Rama, Sumithre to Lakshmana & Shatrugna and Kaike to Bharatha. After ruling Angadadesha for some time, Rishyashringa along with his wife returns to Sringeri.
On other hand, Rishyashringa perform Tapas for Nrusimha on Sahyadri mountain ranges after learning about his father’s aikya with Parameshwara. Satisfied with his Tapas, Nrusimha appears and narrates Shivapanchaakshari Mantra to Rishyashringa on the footholls of the mountain which is now known as “Kigga”. He asks Rishyashringa to perform taps on ChandraMouleshwara on the same place. As per his advice , Rishyashringa performs the tapas along with his wife. Chandramouleshewara appears to Rishyashringa. In excitement, Rishyashringa instead of saying “I want to join with you”, he pleads “You join with me”. Thus Chandramouleshwara joins the soul of Rishyashringa. Since while asking for boon, since there was some confusion, this place came to know as Kagga later on it became Kigga.
