About

History of Sri Anjaneyaswamy Temple

Located in the Mutthathi forest area of Halaguru Hobli in Malavalli Taluk, Mandya District, this is one among the famous Anjaneya temples in the state of Karnataka.

Legenda says that during the “Thretha Yuga” when lord Rama was in exile in the forest his wife Sita Devi lost her nosepin while bathing in the river Kaveri. When she appealed to lord Rama, Lord Hanuman immersed his long tail in the deep water and swirled it and the nosepin appeared. Their incident when lord Hanuman brought back the pearl studded nosepin gave the place its name Mutthathi and lord Hanuman was called “Mutthetharaya” and the place where Hanuman swirled the water got its name as thiruganamadu.

Located amidst the dense forest area thousands of devotees visit the place all across the year and it is also a famous river side tourist attraction.
